This Week’s Theme: Twilight Consciousness
The Adult Bible Study/Sunday School class has a new name – Coffee, Tea, and Thee. We’re a discussion group made up of a few generations, which makes our conversation fun and very interesting.
Join us this Sunday morning at 9:00am when we discuss “Twilight Consciousness”. (The Coffee, Tea, and Thee majority picked this topic. Perhaps, we’ve been influenced by the Halloween season ;) ) Basically, it’s about scientific discoveries and our understanding of eternal life and resurrection. Here’s a little info about the subject:
“…this phenomenon involves a large spike in gamma brainwaves, those linked with memory, awareness and sensory experience. This spike occurs after patients are declared clinically dead, which challenges traditional understandings of what it means to die. …
Researchers are continuing to try to understand what happens as we die. "Previously, it was assumed that the brain just stops functioning," said Dr. Andrew Newberg, a neuroscientist and director of research at the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health and a physician at Jefferson University Hospital. But this study and several others "are suggesting that there is specific brain activity associated with the near-death state." Research has found that areas of the brain associated with cognitive processes (mental activities the brain uses to acquire, process, store and utilize information) are involved. In addition, Newberg said that these areas of the brain have been associated with spiritual experiences.”…
If you find this topic interesting, too, but can’t join us, here are some related Bible references (suggested by The Wired Word) you may want to read. We hope to see you next time!

The Wired Word
Each Sunday at 9:00am we offer “Coffee, Tea, & Thee” a time for adults and older teens to engage in faith conversations. The weekly topic is based on The Wired Word, a resource that provides background, scripture, and prayer around a timely topic or two that has recently been in the news.
For those who are interested, you can receive an advanced copy of the weekly Wired Word via email by contacting the church office at Office@HamburgFirstUCC.org, and request to be added to The Wired Word email list. There is no cost to you to receive these materials, and there is no commitment needed for a certain number of Sundays — we will be happy to welcome and share in fellowship with you for which ever Sundays you are able to come.
